The treadmill offers a great "time-out" luxury for those of us that live hectic lives. You jump on the treadmill -- which is great cardio -- so the time-out aspect is easy to justify because you are doing something good for yourself -- and within seconds, you are in a groove. You can throw your mind in neutral and let your thoughts wander...Ahhhhh!
You can listen to the drone of the treadmill and the slap of your feet. Slap, slap, slap.
Or you can drown out the slapping with music.
Or you can pop a DVD into the player and escape into a movie like I did yesterday.
Last year I had bought a bunch of DVDs on sale and never got around to watching any of them so I flipped through them and found one called Music Within. It's the true story of Richard Pimentel starring Ron Livingston. The caption under the title reads "anyone can change the world."
Pimentels' calling in life: helping people with disabilities. He prompted people to alter how they thought about people with disabilities -- all disabilities. I was blown away by the story. Honestly, if you want to see how positive change can impact the world, check this movie out.
Another explosive message from the movie was not to accept excuses. Quite brilliant.
Pimentel would not accept being held back because of his disability but moreover he would tolerate others trying to hold him back. So he set out to change their minds and did!
My hour on the treadmill was over before I knew it -- it was a great "time-out" and a heartfelt blast of inspiration.
What do you do during your treadmill travel -- watch movies? -- listen to music?
