Book Expo 2011 -- I couldn't help myself -- I LOVE BOOKS!!!

BookExpo America (BEA) is the largest publishing event in North America—it showcases what's new and exciting in the world of books.  I couldn't believe the number of authors on-site, hurriedly signing and giving away their new books.

Often we could quickly step into line to receive a copy but most often the line-ups were as long as a city block!  I tried to be selective and only take the books that I intended to read but it was a frenzy.  When we got back to the hotel at the end of the day I took time to spread some fourteen or fifteen books I had collected across my bed and examine them.

I just quickly googled the number of books published per day and in the US alone the magic number was 800 although I think the worldwide number is more like 7000 books daily.  As a result, I as an author pay particular attention to what draws people to certain books and I am very aware of which book covers catch my eye!  At the show I paid attention to which books giveaways commanded the longest lines?  Hmmm ...

Was the length of the line due to the calibre or status of the author...
or the result of the publishers well place marketing dollars at work?

I seriously felt like it was Christmas  -- my arms filled with colorful unreleased books -- all crisp with unbroken spines.

Interestingly, only one of the books was non-fiction.  Two were autobiographies.  The rest fell into some form of fiction for the most part.  Come to think of it, there not many non-fiction books given away at all!

I am looking for some feedback!  What book covers catch your eye?  Is there a certain color, design, or imagery that your prefer?  Your thoughts  --  please....
