I went to my first BEA this year. Aside from being happy about any excuse to make my way to New York ... this was a great trip! I can't wait until next year!
I flew Porter Airlines for the first time out of Toronto Island. The airport has easy access, it's not overcrowded, you can relax and help yourself to lattes and shnocks (snacks) while you wait ... and you even get a free ferry ride ... although it's only about 400 feet to the island you are on the water and to me that screams relax, vacation, woo hoo I am on my way to New York! It was absolutely perfect!!!
I stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel! A great classy hotel in mid-town Manhattan easily walking distance to the Theatre district, Times Square, great restaurants, great bars and great people!
The Expo was at the Javits Center, a great central venue. I was warned to bring comfortable shoes -- I actually thought I had -- but I walked so much I thought my feet would fall off.
So here is my take!
It was amazing to meet fellow authors -- people that I had so much in common with.
We volunteered at IBPA (Independent Book Publishers Association) for an hour one day and met some very interesting publishers -- charismatic and dynamic! Plus the staff at IBPA were wonderful!
As I mentioned, this was my first BEA and thus it was a fact finding mission.
I am carefully weeding through all of the brochures I collected -- there are some exciting prospects in the future!!! More to follow!
