BUY AN EBOOK--SAVE A BRANCH

Buy an ebook--save a branch.  Buy an ebook reader--save a forest!

Everything I read today indicates that ebook sales have taken off way faster than anticipated.

Sales have already surpassed levels forecasted for 2015.

People that a year ago swore that they would never be able to give up the physical format of their cherished books now not only have ebook readers -- they are raving about them.

I am somewhat new to the publishing industry but from a business standpoint I am intrigued by the multitude of changes coming at mach speed.  Aside from the going green aspect that I opened with -- there is a glimpse of the changes to come for all industries.

Is there a continued need for "bricks and mortar?"

Will we all be buying online in the near future?

A friends daughter purchased everything for her wedding online for a fraction of the cost -- I am talking wedding gown, brides maids dresses, and all the accessories.  Even the tuxes were purchased for less than the rental cost and required only minor alteration.

For me?  I am soaking this all up -- there are always business opportunities out there -- you have to pay attention -- you need to anticipate and follow industries outside of you expertise if you want to develop and maintain perspective.

The brilliance of the ability to purchase an ebook online is that it provides a high level "impulse buy" sensation -- I see it -- I want it -- I can have it now -- click!

This certainly could be seen as a negative if you are prone to impulse buying!  Yet for some the shear fact that you can have what you want or moreover need immediately is important.  There is no time wasted driving from store to store looking for what you want and no shipping charges... keeping in mind that whatever you buy in the stores incurred freight cost somewhere along the way.

  1. Lorii, a high level "impulse buy" sensation is indeed good for business, not so good for one's pocketbook (or credit card, rather). But, if I was exploring business opportunities, ebook would need to be investigated. Currently, is there advertising on ebook??? If not, that's the next trend I'm sure...
